My goal is to update and finish the forms so that you will be able to begin preparing today and tomorrow, but I wanted to write a post so that you know a few important details while trying to decide whether to participate or not. There are a few changes from last year and I think that it will be even better.
Last year we had 4 categories, Children, Teen, Adult, and Family. This year, we will have 5 categories. I will be splitting up the children's category because I realized last year that there is a pretty big difference between a 5 year old and an 11 year old which makes it unfair to be competing against each other. So the ages this year will be:
Toddler's 0-7
Children's 8-11
Teen's 12-18
Adult 19 and Up
Family two or more participants from two or more different age categories
The dates for this year's competition will be Friday and Saturday, August 24-25 and will be held at the Heritage Theatre!! The committee and I felt that it needs to be on a proper stage in order to be more fair AND because of the INCREDIBLY turn out in talent, we get the royal treatment!!! Because of the overwhelming amount of participants last year was a little chaotic and I barely pulled it off in one day time wise. I really wasn't expecting the turn out that we had, LOVED the turn out, but wasn't expecting it. This year because of the incredible response and turn out, the Family Festival has asked us to have the finalists compete during the Family of the Year presentation and the winner will be announced after. Which means, friday we will have auditions and only the finalists will perform Saturday night, similar to last year except I'm not going to attempt it in one day like last year and there won't be as many finalists coming back for the final competition in order to accomodate time. Lets be honest, no one wants to sit there for more than 1-2 hours and with us meshing with the Family of the Year, it will cut into the time that will be allowed. I don't know exactly how many finalists will come back but there will be less than last year, I'm sorry.
I am going to be more strict this year on deadlines. Please pay attention to when your music is due, time guidelines, and rules and regulations.
